On Thursday 29th January 2015, we said goodbye to Bryn Roberts at Capel y Pentre, Llanrhaeadr. He passed away Monday 21st after losing a battle with cancer.  He was 64.

The chapel was packed and it was nice to see a good many members of our club present at the ceremony to pay their respects.  Enid read a lovely and fitting tribute to Bryn, and joined with his former band members Mick, Llinos and John in singing Autumn Leaves.  The harmonies were beautiful.

From left: John, Llinos and Bryn performing as Mantra at the White Horse in the early days of the club.

Bryn had been associated with the club since its inception back in 1996 and already many tributes have started coming in.

We will leave this page permanently on the website and you are welcome to send in photographs, your thoughts and your memories using the comments form at the bottom of the page.

From Llinos:

This is a very sad time; losing a friend and someone so talented. To think that Mantra will never play together ever again – we had such great fun rehearsing and playing together! A truly great loss

John Rowell:  A very good friend, I will miss us playing music together.

Tom and Dorothy Sharpe. It was with great sadness that we have just visited your website and learned of the untimely demise of Bryn.  He was a talented and unassuming chap who will be greatly missed by you all.  It is almost four years now since we were able to drop in from time to time and enjoy your music nights. Such pleasant evenings enjoyed by the both of us.  Our good wishes to you all.

From David Petie:
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Dylan Thomas, Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
