First Singers Night of 2014
In what was a fair old turn-out for the first damp and dismal Thursday club night of January, no fewer than eleven voices rang out from the stage at the Cross Keys.
MC for the evening was club raconteur Barry Evans. John Bass was on hand to provide an impeccable bass-line accompaniment to anyone who requested it and Tom Degney was at the ready, as always, to step in with mandolin or slide guitar whenever anyone give him a sideways glance. “I don’t know it, but I’ll pick it up” And he always does. Expertly and beautifully.
One of the nice things about our club is that there are always talented willing musicians on hand to turn a solo performance into an accompanied piece for any performer who wants it.
John and Ros occupied seats in the “three-and-ninepennies” after four years at the back, now that Joe is in the driving seat. Long may they enjoy their new found leisure membership and long may Joe reign over us.
I can foresee the club going from strength to strength during the coming year.
